This annual event opened at the SM Mall of Asia last February 11, Saturday, with fireworks display from competing countries South Korea and Malta. Now, every Saturday this month until March 17, 2012, two competing countries will showcase their fireworks display expertise by the scenic Manila Bay.

Although I still had a blast watching the fireworks last Saturday, I was a bit disappointed and less awed by what I saw. United Kingdom's performance did not give justice to its 1st runner-up finish last year; Spain's fireworks exhibition did not mesmerize me either.

Let me digress a bit. Lakwatsero thinks he sucks at fireworks photography. Oh, well, I think so, too. LOL. He took a lot of pictures and his camera even ran out of memory to take some more but, unfortunately, none of his photos were good enough for this post. All photos on this post came from my camera. I am not saying I am great but, at least, I don't think I suck. Click here if you want to see the rest of the photos.

Lakwatsero and I will be back at the event next week to watch Finland and Portugal compete. We will still bring both our cameras and I think he will give fireworks photography another shot.

SCHEDULE:
February 11, 2012 South Korea and Malta
February 18, 2012 United Kingdom and Spain
February 25, 2012 Finland and Portugal
March 03, 2012 China and The Netherlands
March 10, 2012 Australia and Canada
March 17, 2012 Italy and Philippines

ReplyDeleteI'm excited to know which country will win this year.
ReplyDeleteI love watching these pyrotechniques. They're entertaining. Every time these fireworks exploded in the sky, the people shouted with glee. These pyro works are now a common sight in our local festivities. Of course, this is done at night.
ReplyDeleteThese are great shots! Excited to know who will be this year's winner
ReplyDeleteWow! Ang galing naman! I love the first picture.. perfect! I enjoy watching fireworks displays. Very entertaining. This will be every Saturday until March 17? Awts, kung sa Manila lang sana ako.... oh well.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are amazing. Such a beautiful scene. :)
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Fabulous! It reminds me of HK Disneylands magical fireworks display when I went there in 2010. It was magical indeed but this one really looks fantastic! Wish I could see one again in future!

Oh wow...these are amazing photos, I can only aspire to take photos as great. :) Too bad, MOA is still a drive and heavy traffic away (mostly), hopefully we'll find time to visit and witness this spectacular event. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, your photos are awesome! Hahaha Too bad about UK and Spain. I had great expectations for the UK. :P Not surprising that China won last year no? They just seem to have a long history of making fireworks and I guess they've perfected the craft after decades of making them at a cheap price :P Good luck to the Philippines!!! I hope we win hehe
ReplyDeleteI wanna witness this. Wish ko malapit lang ako sa Manila no.
ReplyDeleteang ganda!! we have fireworks display na din sa SBMA every new year celebration.. pero syempre hindi pa din sing-ganda nyan! I love fireworks! ;)
ReplyDeleteI was with the other PTB last 2nd Pyromusical Competition. Where were you then during the shooting with Angel and Darwin? I was with them too near the sea wall.:-).

Beautiful pictures! Isn't it great that the pyrotechnics keep getting better and more colorful each year? I'm sure they'll soon come up with the same visual magic that was Gandal's fireworks in the LOTR movie.
