The 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition: Spain Vs. UK

Seaside Boulevard, Mall Of Asia, Saturday, February 18, 2012 -- The New Year's Eve celebration is long over but the Philippines is not done painting the sky all sorts of brilliant colors, as the currently on going 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition continues to brighten the Manila sky with vivid and spectacular burst of colorful fireworks from the world’s leading pyrotechnic experts.

This annual event opened at the SM Mall of Asia last February 11, Saturday, with fireworks display from competing countries South Korea and Malta. Now, every Saturday this month until March 17, 2012, two competing countries will showcase their fireworks display expertise by the scenic Manila Bay.

Just this weekend, Lakwatsero and I went to see United Kingdom and Spain compete at the 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition.
We also went to this event last year and watched Japan and Canada compete during the 2nd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition. Last year's experience was a blast. I was impressed with Japan's never-before-seen spectacle of fireworks display. Japan and UK were 2nd and 1st runners-up, respectively, at last year's competition. China was the champion.

Although I still had a blast watching  the fireworks last Saturday, I was a bit disappointed and less awed by what I saw. United Kingdom's performance did not give justice to its 1st runner-up finish last year; Spain's fireworks exhibition did not mesmerize me either.

Let me digress a bit.  Lakwatsero thinks he sucks at fireworks photography. Oh, well, I think so, too. LOL. He took a lot of pictures and his camera even ran out of memory to take some more but, unfortunately, none of his photos were good enough for this post. All photos on this post came from my camera. I am not saying I am great but, at least, I don't think I suck. Click here if you want to see the rest of the photos.

Lakwatsero and I will be back at the event next week to watch Finland and Portugal compete. We will still bring both our cameras and I think he will give fireworks photography another shot.

Anyway, going to the event is really not about taking great photographs to post on your Facebook walls or feeds and get your friends to like.
The 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition is about having fun. It is a dazzling event that friends and family will surely enjoy watching. For those who have not seen this annual spectacle yet, why don't you check it out. It's really worth a try.

  3. I love watching these pyrotechniques. They're entertaining. Every time these fireworks exploded in the sky, the people shouted with glee. These pyro works are now a common sight in our local festivities. Of course, this is done at night.

  8. Oh wow...these are amazing photos, I can only aspire to take photos as great. :) Too bad, MOA is still a drive and heavy traffic away (mostly), hopefully we'll find time to visit and witness this spectacular event. :)

  9. I agree, your photos are awesome! Hahaha Too bad about UK and Spain. I had great expectations for the UK. :P Not surprising that China won last year no? They just seem to have a long history of making fireworks and I guess they've perfected the craft after decades of making them at a cheap price :P Good luck to the Philippines!!! I hope we win hehe

  13. Damn! Those pictures are overwhelming. Why? Yeah, sobra ako nahihirapan magshoot ng fireworks. Lol. Cause one time, wala ako tripod and super lapit ko sa paputok. Hahaha. You're great dude! And, Ill make it this March to visit the event. :)

  22. Beautiful pictures! Isn't it great that the pyrotechnics keep getting better and more colorful each year? I'm sure they'll soon come up with the same visual magic that was Gandal's fireworks in the LOTR movie.
